The
Health,
Assistance
and
Nursing
program
trains
individuals
to
become
Licensed
practical
nurses
(LPN’s.)
LPN’s
are a
growing
part of
the
health
care
professional
team who
work
closely
with
Registered
Nurses
to
deliver
nursing
and
medical
care in
a
variety
of
settings
to
promote
and
maintain
health.
The
profession
is one
that has
recently
evolved,
allowing
LPN’s to
deliver
care
that was
once
only
designated
for
other
professionals,
for
example:
drawing
blood,
intravenous
insertion
and
taking
part in
vaccination
campaigns.
LPN’s
work in
both the
private
and
public
sectors,
in a
variety
of
fields
such as
emergency
and
operating
rooms,
research
clinics
and
CLSC’s.
Along
with the
evolution
of the
practice,
students
who
enroll
in the
Health,
Assistance
and
Nursing
program
are
required
to pass
a
licensing
exam
upon
completion
of their
studies.
This
exam was
designed
to
ensure
that
graduates
are
equipped
with the
essential
knowledge
and
skills
needed
to work
alongside
other
healthcare
professionals
and
showcase
the
importance
of
having
an LPN
as part
of the
healthcare
team.
The
Health,
Assistance
and
Nursing
program
offered
at both
WICC and
PACC
vocational
centres
prepares
students
for the
reality
of
industry
and a
career
that is
exciting,
ever
changing
and
deeply
rewarding.
