On March 22, 2018, PACC Career Centre hosted Human Resource representatives from 60 health institutions, agencies, pharmaceutical companies and community services for the 14th annual Health Job Fair. Once again, the event received an overwhelming response from community partners.
Students and alumni from PACC health, food and business programs had the opportunity to speak with HR representatives from leading health institutions (both public and private) across Montreal. Visitors lined up and waited for the official opening. Once the doors opened, students and alumni streamed in to meet with potential employers. Most booths had long line-ups as students waited to speak with HR representatives.
Many of the organizations present emphasized that there are many job openings available and they forecast that the demand for employees will continue to increase. From nursing assistants, to orderlies, to medical secretaries and many other jobs, employers are looking for qualified professionals to fill positions.
The Health Job Fair has become a flagship event for both PACC and Montreal’s health industry. The job fair presents students with rich insight to the health job market and the recruitment process. Human Resource representatives are able to keep abreast of advances in pedagogy and build mentoring relationships with their future colleagues. Ellen Tissenbaum, organizing committee member, commented "By having a job fair, we give our students the opportunity to avail themselves of the resources in the community that will give them future employment."
“PACC is proud to have established connections with Montreal’s health institutions,” said Catherine Ross, Health Laboratory Technician at PACC. Ms. Ross added, “As the event came to a close, the HR representatives packed up not only exhilarated but overly satisfied with the quality and turnout of candidates. Many put in their request for an invitation to next year’s event as they departed. There were graduates who left with jobs and many others who were already preparing for their scheduled interviews over the next few weeks.”
The Health Job Fair offers a friendly, approachable setting for students to sharpen their skills, peak their interests, explore opportunities, and advance their careers. Committee members, Ellen Tissenbaum, Madeleine Barrette, Catherine Ross, Karen Ryan & Gurpreet Mand will start planning next year’s event will start in October 2018.
