Regional Hairdressing Olympiad

On Tuesday, February 6, 2018 GRBA hosted the Regional Hairdressing Olympiad. Ten contestants from five different school boards competed in two separate categories:  Women’s haircut, color and style, and Men’s cut, color and style.The school boards that participated were Commission Scolaire de la Pointe-de-lîle, Commission Scolaire de Montréal, English Montreal School Board, Commission Scolaire Marguerite Bourgeoys, and Lester B Pearson.

GRBA staff and students, coaches, friends and family came together to support and cheer on our talented competitors.The school was abuzz with excitement and anticipation for the event. The day began with breakfast organized by Marilyn Maclean for all the invited guests. The competition was overseen by scrutineers in a controlled environment blocked off by elegant black velvet ropes and silver posts.. The competition was held in two hairdressing salons. The first competition  focused on the Women’s cut, color and style, the students had three hours to transform a mannequin based on concepts chosen from three different jars.  The competitors were focused and an inspiration to all that attended. Once completed,a delicious  lunch was served buffet style organised by Marilyn Maclean and supplied by PACC. The afternoon began with the Men’s competition in the adjoining salon. Students were given a photograph of a men’s haircut and style to duplicate.  The color was of their choosing. Three hours later the classroom erupted with applause and cheer. Job well done! What followed was a wine and cheese celebration to congratulate all the participants and to announce the winners. First place and second  went to Richère Bérubé and Mya Larocque respectfully both from Commission de la Pointe de L’ile, Centre Antoine-de-St-Exupéry, and third place went to Charles Auclair from Comission Scolaire de Montréal, École des métiers des Faubourgs-de-Montréal. They each received a beautiful gift box, a certificate and our first place winner will go on the participate in the National Hairdressing Olympiad.  GRBA also presented each of the ten participates with a token to commemorate this special occasion. The judges and scrutineers received small gifts as a token of our appreciation for their participation.
