The Automobile Mechanics program of West Island Career Centre (WICC) received a very generous donation from GM Canada: a new GMC Sierra truck.
Mr. Philippe-André Bisson, Director of Communications for GM Canada, handed over the keys to the new GMC truck at a ceremony on November 21, 2017. The truck will allow students to learn their trade using state-of-the-art technology. The Automobile Mechanics department recently renovated their garages to give students access to the latest tools and technology.
Mr. Bernard Duchesneau, Auto Mechanics teacher, introduced the dignitaries on hand: Mr. Thomas Rhymes, Assistant Director General of Lester B. Pearson School Board, Mr. Craig Berger, school commissioner for Ward 6, Mr. Philippe-André Bisson, Director of Communications for GM Canada, Mr. Serge Gauthier, Director of École des métiers de l'équipement motorisé de Montréal, and Mrs. Ann Moran, Centre Director.
Mrs. Moran thanked Mr. Bisson for the generous donation. In her remarks, Mrs. Moran stated that “through partnerships with the automotive community, our students reap benefits that will help shape their future and enhance their success.” She also mentioned that partnerships “provide new learning opportunities to WICC students and in turn to the future workforce of the automotive industry.”
The ceremony took place during WICC’s Open House event. The Open House gave prospective students a chance to tour the centre and speak with teachers from all programs.
